To win the Premier League title is a feat in itself. To finish comfortably ahead of your biggest rivals is even more satisfying. To smash all records while playing scintillating football that had even your fiercest detractors purring...that is something truly special.

After a season of bedding into English football and laying down the blueprint of how he wanted his team to play, Pep Guardiola showed what all the fuss was about whern he made his much-heralded move to Manchester City in 2016. A year into his career in England, the Spaniard was ready to unleash a brand of football that came close to perfection. Mixing patient possession with lightning attacks, City scored goals for fun and were so good that some even wondered if they could go all season without tasting defeat.

While an unbeaten campaign proved a step too far, the charge towards the Premier League title looked in little doubt for most of the season – especially when they crafted a remarkable 18-match winning streak towards the end of 2017.

Outstanding young players like Leroy Sané, Gabriel Jesus, Ederson and Raheem Sterling supplemented experienced championship-winning heroes of the past like Vincent Kompany, David Silva and Sergio Agüero, with Kevin De Bruyne perhaps the stand-out individual, oozing class at the heart of City’s best performances.

The Carabao Cup was the first trophy collected, after beating Arsenal at Wembley, but it was the Premier League masterclass that delighted City’s fans the most.

By the time the curtain came down at Southampton in May, City had become the first Premier League club to earn 100 points in a season, scored 106 goals, finished 19 points ahead of their nearest rivals and won 32 of their 38 league games.

#Centurions relives the greatest-ever Premier League campaign and celebrates the players and manager who made it happen.
