In the summer of 2025, Diogo Jota had the world at his feet.
A star striker for Liverpool FC and the Portuguese national team, he had just won the Premier League and Nations League before getting married to his childhood sweetheart.
But just 11 days after tying the knot to Rute Cardoso, tragedy struck. As Diogo and brother André Silva drove back through Spain to catch a ferry to the UK, their hired Lamborghini crashed on the motorway. Both brothers were killed.
What followed was a huge outpouring of grief – both from the family and the wider footballing world.
This intimate biography of Diogo Jota tells the inside story of his career and life before it was tragically cut short.
The author interviews family, team-mates and managers to produce a richly-detailed portrait of a brilliant footballer and much-loved man. His widow recounts the events of the crash in agonising detail. Team-mates including Virgil van Dijk and Jordan Henderson give the inside track on a special friend, while managers such as Jürgen Klopp and Arne Slot also have their say on a unique character.
This emotive biography is a fitting tribute to Liverpool FC’s eternal number 20.
